Cosmetic Contact Lenses can pose a serious risk whether bought with a prescription or in novelty stores
Why would anyone want to buy cosmetic contact lenses? Well, some people buy them to change or enhance their eye color. Some people buy them for special events like football games or holidays like Halloween. When most people think about cosmetic contact lenses they think of the colored contacts that you would use to change your eye color from brown to blue or maybe blue to green. But, you can get cosmetic contact lenses with football team logos on them, or cat’s eyes and even zebra-striped lenses. This type is more commonly called theatrical or special effect contact lenses. As with anything there is risk involved. Some people try buying a one size fits all cosmetic contact lenses from novelty shops and over the Internet. This is not only dangerous, it can lead to infection and/or blindness, but it is illegal in the United States. You must see your eye care doctor for an examination of your eyes and for proper fit. You must get a prescription from your eye care doctor, even still there is an inherent risk involved. There are reports of people suffering serious eye damage from the use of these one-size fits all contacts. The results of using them can cause legal blindness in one or both eyes. One person who used them needed to have a corneal transplant in order to restore their vision. For more information on contact lenses, please choose from the following menu of items:
